Euzhan Palcy
Hailing from Martinique, French West Indies, Palcy is a filmmaker and producer. She is the first Black woman and director to have her production supported by a premier Hollywood studio (MGM). She was also the first Black woman to win a Cèsar Award for her film “Sugar Cane Alley” and a Venice Film Festival Award.
Palcy has gone on to garner other accolades such as being named as Glamour’s “10 most inspiring women,” having a school named after her on her native island, receiving the Unita Blackwell Award for the 35th anniversary of the National Conference of Black Mayors. Since 2013, Palcy has served as the National Committee for the Memory and History of Slavery (CNMHE) being appointed by former French President Francois Hollande.
