Summer Make-Up & Products That Beat the Heat

Happy Friday, Guys!  We’ve made it through yet another week and in to another month.  I can’t believe it’s July and that we’re five months away from Christmas?!  OK, let’s appreciate the summer while it’s here, shall we?! Last week, I started sharing with you ways to beat the heat,  and today, I will share a few of my  summer beauty saviors that are sweat-proof no matter where you are or what you are doing!

Eyeliner

Sometimes in the summer, I use eyeliner to make a huge statement with my peepers instead of eye shadow, which can be a bit messy.

Some of my favorite eyeliner is Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes and Gucci Beauty Iconic Black Power Liquid Liner (pictured).

What I love about this product by Gucci is it doesn’t smudge, bleed, or migrate on my greasy lids. In addition, the felt tip makes it easy to apply without creating a big messy line.

Concealers

I have to be honest, sometimes I’m super thankful for being a make-up artist.  I find myself getting less and less sleep and waking up to a full dark ring under my eyes. In the summertime, concealers don’t always do the trick, because I start off the day fully concealed, and by 3 p.m., my circles are making a front-stage appearance.

Consequently, I started using the concealer It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye, and I’m loving its staying power; it’s highly pigmented and a little goes a long way.

Mascara

Several mascaras promise to be long-lasting or waterproof, and sometimes it works…and sometimes it doesn’t. I’m convinced that what drives up the cost of mascara isn’t the formula but the bristles.

The next time you find mascara with a bristle that you love, save it by cleaning it with alcohol and using a less expensive tube. and see if you’ve noticed the difference.

Helpful tip: If you are hoping to get more product out of the tube, don’t take your wand and move it up and down in the tube. Unfortunately, that only pumps air in to the tube causing it to dry out quicker. Instead, take the wand and twirl it inside the tube. Lastly, did you know the life cycle of mascara is only six months…who knew?

This mascara survived and stayed intact as I went for an evening jog, making me feel pretty!

Deodorant

Degree Expert Protection Motion Sense Invisible Solid in Linen Dry is my favorite!  I know deodorant depends on the person, but I like this one in particular because it doesn’t transfer to my clothes and the motion-activated deodorant keeps me fresh even after doing my Zumba class or waiting on a hot platform for a New York City subway to arrive.

Sunscreen

Most women of color hear the word SPF and they immediately think it’s not for them – wrong!

Anyone that’s exposed to sun needs to protect their skin from some of the dangers sun can cause if you’re overexposed, such as sunburns.

“SPF” stands for Sun Protection Factor.  The SPF number tells you how well the product will protect you from Ultra Violet B (UVB) rays, the burning rays of the sun. When I have an outdoor commercial that I’m working on, in the morning I rub on some SPF.  It starts off feeling thick, but by the time I leave, it’s absorbed in to my skin.  I find by using an SPF, such as the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 70 below, it also illuminates my brown skin, giving it nice natural glow.

This is just a few of my beauty saviors; my list goes on and on as I’m constantly trying new products to test and review for you.  I’d love to hear what are some of your summer beauty must-haves, so send me a beauty note at rj@renardajoynyc.com or let’s continue this discussion on Twitter: my handle is @rjnybeauty!

For those of you that are celebrating the Fourth of July, be safe and enjoy!

xoxo!
