Adamu Waziri
The Nigerian animator had for a long time wanted to do a Nigerian-based cartoon because he realized that all the shows Nigerian children watched were foreign and rarely had a representation of Africans. In 2011, Waziri launched “Bino & Fino,” a children’s cartoon starring a brother and sister in a modern-day city in Africa to teach children about the history of Africa and offer an accurate representation of children growing up on the continent.
Since then, Waziri and his team have released two English-language DVD sets and a toy range for the educational show, which has gained fame among children the world over. In Germany, Sweden, the U.S. and Japan, it has become a tool to teach young children about Nigerian cultures and languages. Waziri’s EVCL animation house aims to develop brands that would immediately be identifiable as coming from Africa.
