In previous years, when it comes to animations, Hollywood is what many people think of as the animation industry was never seen as a viable career or opportunity for African people.

Times have changed now. In spite of scarcity of funding and the lack of production facilities, Africans are producing animations that have gained global acclaim and rubbing shoulders with those of the West. These African animators have taken advantage of the global appetite for African stories to tell such pieces through animations.

As the world celebrates World Animation Day, here are some of the talents from Africa whose animation works have not only entertained global audiences but educated them about African history:
