600 Young NYC Philanthropists Promote Healthcare in Africa
WHEN: Monday evening, July 18th, 2010 – Event begins at 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Hudson Terrace – 621 West 46th Street (near 10th Avenue)
WHO: The Touch Foundation is dedicated to addressing the global health care crisis, one health care worker at a time by bringing these workers and healthcare services to the sickest people in rural sub-Saharan Africa.
The Touch Foundation works in Tanzania, a stable democracy that has a strong relationship with the U.S. and a demonstrated commitment to poverty alleviation. By training doctors, nurses, and health care workers, and by working hand-in-hand with the Tanzanian government to restructure the country’s health care system, The Touch Foundation aims to create a model for reform that can inform and inspire similar efforts throughout the developing world. Touch has trained hundreds of healthcare workers thus far, and is now working to ensure these professionals are treating the patients in the remote rural areas where the greatest needs exist.
WHY: Proceeds from the evening will support our work training doctors, nurses and other health care workers in Tanzania. These students are vital to improving health care in Tanzania and will go on to save thousands of lives during their medical careers.
In NYC there is 1 doctor for every 300 people
In Tanzania, there is 1 doctor for every 30,000
We’ve all seen a doctor; the rest of the world deserves the same.
