The father of rapper Young Thug has registered his displeasure over the treatment being meted out to his son as he remains in jail on RICO charges. According to Vibe, Jeffrey Williams Sr. questioned why his son had been denied bond but former President Donald Trump was released on bail following his arrest for the same offense.
A photo on August 26 showed Williams Sr. in a “FREE YSL” t-shirt and displaying a sign with a message directed at Georgia authorities. “Trump & Crew got a bond, Young Thug & YSL face the exact same charges but no bond?” the sign stated. “Make justice fair!!”
A message in the sign that was also directed to Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis seemingly called her out for treating Trump differently. “We deserve a fair fight too, Fani,” the sign stated.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, a grand jury on August 14 brought racketeering charges against Trump and 18 of his allies for allegedly trying to overturn the outcome of Georgia’s 2020 election after he lost to Joe Biden.
“Defendant Donald Trump lost the United States presidential election, held on November 3, 2020,” the indictment stated. “One of the states he lost was Georgia. Trump and the other defendants charged in this indictment refused to accept that Trump lost, and they knowingly and willfully joined a conspiracy to unlawfully change the outcome of the election in favor of Trump. That conspiracy contained a common plan and purpose to commit two or more acts of racketeering activity, in Fulton County, Georgia, elsewhere in the state of Georgia, and in other states.”
Young Thug, on the other hand, was arrested with several other associates for alleged racketeering. Authorities said Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, allegedly conspired to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
The Go Crazy rapper, who was arrested on May 9, has since been denied bond. Fulton County Judge Ural Glanville said his decision to have Young Thug remain in custody was because of concerns about the rapper being a danger to the community if he was released, the New York Post reported.
But the photo of Young Thug’s father campaigning for his release was received with mixed reactions as some people highlighted the gravity of his son’s situation, Vibe reported. Prosecutors claim the 32-year-old rapper’s YSL group is responsible for murders, shootings, and carjackings.
Others, however, said that shouldn’t be the case and people facing RICO charges should be treated the same way, adding that Young Thug should be able to get bail if Trump was granted one.
