Shakira Scott began making six figures at the age of 19, only a year into her career. Her mother, a real estate broker in the field, served as an inspiration for the young entrepreneur when she decided to pursue her real estate career.
The Louisianan completed her high school education at 17 and began her real estate career by enrolling in a pre-license real estate course while balancing her first year at Louisiana State University. Scott was just excited to get started since she saw it as a route to generational wealth, while some questioned her choice and wondered why she didn’t wait until after college.
She told Fortune in a 2023 interview, “I know what I want from life. I kind of felt like why wait when the resources are here and I can do both. Now I have an earlier start than others would, and I’m glad I [made] that decision. It was stressful and it still is kind of stressful, but the good always outweighs the bad.”

Despite having obtained her real estate license at the age of 18, she failed to make sales in the first two months in the year 2022 when she began.
However, by the third month, Scott had received her first commission of $9,000 after selling her first home. A year after the start of her career, Scott started making six figures, typically over $10,000 a month, at 19 years old.
She recounted, “When I first started, I was kind of like a ghost,” Scott said. “I wasn’t doing any type of advertisement, I wasn’t talking to anyone. I just kind of had my license and no one really knew. But once I came up with a good lead generation formula and stuck to it, things really changed for me.”
“I’m not going to lie, when I got those first two commission checks, I kind of went crazy. But after that, I was like, I’ve had my fun, now it’s time to just save and invest.”
The young entrepreneur intends to give back to her community by developing properties in her hometown and educating others via e-books and social media. Scott, now 20, also shares bits and pieces of her life and insights into her path on her TikTok account, which has over 125,000 followers.
She has also balanced her real estate business with a marketing degree from LSU, and she enjoys helping people realize their aspirations.
“I want to be successful, I want to inspire other people, so they can see that age has nothing to do with your level of success. If you want something, you can go and get it, and I just want to be that inspiration for people,” she remarked.
