Following backlash for having dinner with Kanye West and known white supremacist Nick Fuentes, former U.S. president Donald Trump took to social media to seemingly explain why he hosted the embattled fashion designer and rapper.
According to Sky News, Trump hosted the pair at his Mar-a-Lago estate last week. And Kanye, who now goes by the name Ye, said he asked Trump to be his running mate for the 2024 presidential election. But the College Dropout rapper said Trump was “most perturbed” by his offer.
In the wake of the backlash that ensued after their meeting, Trump shared a social media post claiming he did not know who Fuentes was. He also said he was unaware the known white supremacist would be attending the dinner with Kanye.
“So I help a seriously troubled man, who just happens to be black Ye (Kanye West), who had been decimated in his business and virtually everything else, and who had always been good to me, by allowing his request for a meeting at Mar-a-Lago, alone, so that I can give him very much needed ‘advice,’” Trump shared on ‘Truth Social’.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Kanye came under fire last month after he shared anti-Semitic posts on Twitter and Instagram. The two social media platforms suspended his accounts in the wake of his online rants. But his Twitter account was later reinstated by the company’s new CEO Elon Musk.
The Graduation rapper also stirred further controversy after he and Right-wing commentator Candace Owens were spotted wearing “White Lives Matter” T-shirts at an event he hosted during the Paris fashion week.
The 45-year-old’s online behavior has since cost him his lucrative deal with Adidas, causing him to lose his status as a billionaire. According to Forbes, Kanye’s deal with Adidas accounted for $1.5 billion of his net worth. But the magazine estimates his current net worth to be around $400 million, down from nearly $2 billion.
And besides Adidas, other companies including Gap and Balenciaga have also severed ties with him.
