Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral
Born on September 12, 1924 in Bafata, Portuguese Guinea, Amílcar Lopes da Costa Cabral was an anti-colonial leader, revolutionary, intellectual and nationalist.
Cabral was a leader in the revolutionary movement against the Portuguese government, formulated a trade and barter system in the countryside that offered cheaper goods as compared to colonial storekeepers and led in the eventual independence of Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau.
On January 20, 1973, Cabral was shot dead by two disgruntled enemies who were members of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC). One being Inocêncio Kani.
