‘Eat watermelon & fried chicken’ – High school students expelled for posting racist video

Two seniors at Carrollton High School in Georgia have been expelled after they posted a racist and stereotypical video about blacks on video-sharing social media platform, TikTok. Authorities also confirmed the identified seniors will not be permitted to graduate from the school.

In the video that was shared on Thursday and was met with swift backlash, the male and female teenagers can be seen recording themselves in a bathroom attempting to mould African Americans by mimicking a cooking show.

The video starts with the female introducing the mock show, saying: “Hey, today we’re making…” As she moves the camera from the mirror to the sink, the word “niggers” can be seen written on a piece of paper and placed on it. Her male companion then completes her statement by saying, “n*ggers.”

They then go ahead to show stereotypes of African Americans that have also been written on pieces of paper and covered with cups that are either filled with or not filled water, mimicking their ingredients. As they mention them one after the other, they pour the cups into the sink.

The cups that are filled with water include “black”, “don’t have a dad”, “eat watermelon & fried chicken”, “rob people” – which the male agrees and chimes in with “specifically whites, yeah they do that” – and “go to jail.”

The cup that holds no water is, “make good choices.”

In the aftermath of the incident, Carrollton City Schools Superintendent Mark Albertus released a statement condemning the students’ action.

“Tonight it has been brought to my attention that an inappropriate video was created on the TikTok social media platform,” he said. “Please know that this video has been addressed immediately and any student involved in the production of this video will face serious consequences. Carrollton City Schools’ top priority is the health and well-being of our students and this type of behavior will not be tolerated.”

He also said the students’ behavior was “unacceptable and is not representative of the district’s respect for all people” and as such, they have been expelled.

“The racist behavior observed in the video easily violates this standard. They are no longer students at Carrollton High School.”

Speaking to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, district spokeswoman Julianne Foster said the students, who were set to graduate in the spring, will neither receive their diplomas nor be allowed to partake in the graduation ceremony.

“The students are no longer enrolled in our school district. Our school year has not yet ended, so they will not be graduates of Carrollton High School,” Foster said.
