Tori Miller makes history as NBA G League’s first female general manager

Tori Miller has become the first woman to hold the title of general manager in the history of the NBA G League. The Atlanta Hawks and its NBA G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, announced that they have promoted Miller to the position of general manager.

Miller, a Decatur Georgia native, joined the organization three seasons ago and helped scout personnel as the manager of basketball operations. She served as the Skyhawks’ assistant GM last season.

According to the NBA, before joining the G League, the University of Miami graduate interned in the basketball operations department for the Phoenix Suns.

Miller said she believes in making the impossible possible. “I think that mindset creates opportunities. That’s what I always revert back to and keep fighting. I know I want to be a game-changer. You have to believe in making the impossible possible.”

“It means the world. I didn’t realize the magnitude. I receive about 10 or so messages every two weeks from girls looking to break in. They let me know that they see me and it means the world to know that I’m making an impact on their lives.”

“That’s something that motivates me because it’ll be easier for the next girl that sends out her résumé for that basketball operations internship. It won’t be thrown out because she’s a girl. I can be someone who can break the mould and create a path for others looking to break in,” Miller said.
