In Georgia, a hospital recently discharged 99-year-old Maude Burke, and she is reportedly the oldest COVID-19 patient to be discharged from Phoebe Putney Health System in Albany.

Burke, who is close to her 100th birthday, received a special farewell from the hospital’s nurses and staff who lined the hallway and cheered her on as she left to go home.

“Her strength and determination are amazing, and we wish her well as she continues to recover,” the hospital said on its Facebook page with a video of her leaving the hospital which has since gone viral.

“We continue to celebrate with our #COVID-19 patients when they get well enough to go home from our hospitals. This celebration was extra special. Maude Burke… is the oldest COVID-19 patient we’ve been able to discharge. Thank you for being an inspiration, Ms Maude!,” the post read.

Burke was hospitalized for 17 days and despite being in the age group that is the most vulnerable and are at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness, she survived.
