Harry Oppenheimer
Harry Frederick Oppenheimer was a renowned industrialist, philanthropist, and business magnate regarded as the country’s leading industrialist for four decades. He retired as the Chairman of Anglo American Corporation in 1982 after a successful 25-year leadership, and also retired as the Chairman of De Beers in 1984 after a successful 27-year leadership.
His son, Nicky Oppenheimer who is presently one of the few African Billionaires, became the Deputy Chairman of Anglo American Corporation in 1983, and the Chairman of De Beers in 1998. Born on October 28, 1908, Harry died on August 19, 2000.
