Adaptation of laws from colonizers
In 1955, The French established a singular code of law to be used across all of its colonies in Africa. It is known as the Afrique Occidentale française (AOF).
Senegal, Guinea, Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and Togo have all kept some aspect of French law codes in their country’s governing statutes, though there are changes being made that show a significant shift in the French’s influence.
