Ronnie Coleman, an eight-time Mr. Olympia recognized for his bodybuilding accomplishments, suffered a “medical emergency” over the weekend. His family recently revealed on social media that the 61-year-old Louisiana native is under “intensive medical supervision” and has “an infection in his bloodstream.”
“Ronnie has been transferred to a specialized medical facility to receive the highest level care available,” the family wrote on Tuesday. “While his condition remains complex, there have been encouraging signs of progress, and his medical team is working around the clock to support his recovery. At this stage key evaluations and treatments are ongoing and Ronnie continues to fight with the strength and resilience that define him.”

The bodybuilder earlier stated on Sunday that despite being slated to appear in the United Kingdom this week, he “had to stick around here in the U.S. for treatment.”
He did, however, reassure his supporters, saying, “But don’t worry. I’m in great hands, getting the best care, and I’m staying strong through it all. I’ll be back and better than ever, and I can’t wait to get out there and see you all real soon!”
Coleman’s life was detailed in the 2018 documentary Ronnie Coleman: The King, which also revealed his numerous health issues, including multiple back injuries and surgery, according to People.
Due to his rigorous training, the man who formerly deadlifted 800 pounds has had to rely on a wheelchair in recent times. Coleman holds the all-time record for most Mr. Olympia titles.
