Houses should face west

Housing plans in Madagascar have their own rules and regulations more like their own rituals that need to be observed.

One of such rules pertains to the direction one’s house must face. Malagasy people believe the best time to enjoy the sunshine is in the afternoon as the sun is about to set.

Considering this, all houses should open facing the west. In the traditional Malagasy building, the east portico is closed off with no windows or doors. The windows are strategically located in the north and the doors in the west.
