Cubans are illiterates

Higher education in Cuba is free and so most people take advantage of the system to educate themselves right through to the doctorate level if they have the interest.

The country has a literacy rate of 99.8% and doctors have become its greatest export. In April, more than 200 Cuban doctors arrived in South Africa. Including epidemiologists, health-care technology engineers, biotechnology experts, and family physicians, these Cuban medics were deployed to different provinces by South Africa’s health authorities to help fight the pandemic.
