Capt. Sandy Campbell broke down barriers traveling around the world at the helm of the world’s largest gas tankers as a merchant mariner and seafarer.
As her work took her from one country to another in the Middle East, Asia and Europe in 1,100-foot vessels (otherwise the size of three football fields), Campbell fell in love with traveling. In most of her travels for work, she only had a few days to explore the countries and cultures at a time, but she always promised herself to go back later to fully explore those places, she says on her website.
Campbell, who hails from the Bahamas, has in recent days reinvented herself as a content curator, documenting her travel experiences, coaching potential travelers, and consulting as a travel advisor through the website she recently launched, SandysSuitcase.com.
She consults on all things travel, including coaching, planning and advice. “In the beginning, blogging was an outlet for me, a way of keeping a record of my travels from around the world,” Campbell says, according to blacknews.com. “But what’s really important to me now is giving people who want to get their feet wet in the traveling pool the resources they need to do that.”
“Traveling for work has exposed me to so many wonderful places, and it’s made me want to share my love of travel and all the knowledge I’ve gained doing it with other people,” she adds.
The young seafarer has traveled to more than 56 countries, five continents, and most of the Caribbean islands. According to Black news, she has “sailed the Malacca Straights, explored the Greek Islands, sand-boarded in Peru, hiked an active volcano in Guatemala, and lived like a local in Lagos.”
“If someone had told me 10 years ago, that I would be traveling the world, location independant and living my best life, I would have not believed them! I have traveled to over 50 countries, the majority of them as a solo traveler and although I am far from being a nomad, I am however addicted to travel and seeing the world one rock at a time,” she says.
Campbell’s next goal is to travel to every country in the world.
