Knowing how heavy-handed American police are with African–Americans accused of breaching the law, the case of a mother and daughter arrested for stealing none other than crab legs is bizarre, to say the least.
Felicia Hollins and her daughter, Gabrielle Hodges, entered East Memphis SuperLo Foods on Quince Road but instead of a good old exchange of money for items selected, the duo rather had other plans, namely, stealing crab legs valued in the hundreds from the grocery store, wset.com reported.
The police say the duo have been charged with theft of property and assault and as if stealing wasn’t enough, the two allegedly attacked a female store manager who confronted them about the theft.
When arrested, police said they admitted to stealing the crab legs without paying for them. Felicia and Gabrielle must have loved the crabs belonging to the subphylum Crustacean family so much to steal $200 worth of the tasty meat.
Both Hollins and Hodges now have their fate in the hands of a judge who might send them to jail for the long haul or cause them to pay the estimated cost and a penalty bonding them to be of good behaviour.
King crabs, snow crabs and tiger shrimps, as well as, fish options, are heavily consumed by the African-American community who love to have their meaty crabs with butter sauce.
King crab legs are a popular delicacy that offers many nutritional benefits, including a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids, protein, vitamins and minerals.
