Since 2012, actor Nick Cannon has openly shared his struggle with lupus to support others facing the disease. He posted a photo of himself on his Instagram stories recently getting blood work done to highlight his journey so far.
The 43-year-old mogul since the discovery of the condition has adopted a healthier lifestyle, including dietary changes and increased physical activity, while seeking medical advice to combat lupus.
His Instagram post showing him undergoing blood work while labeling himself a “lupus warrior” reaffirms his commitment to health. Cannon has grappled with lupus for more than ten years.
This autoimmune condition triggers the body’s immune system to target healthy tissues instead of harmful pathogens, resulting in inflammation that impacts various organs and systems, including the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs.
Despite battling lupus, Cannon remains committed to living his life fully.
In a video shared on “The Nick Cannon Show” two years ago, he recounted his decade-long struggle with lupus, including close calls, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and hospitalizations.
He said he had to make lifestyle changes as a result of the difficulty of the journey.
“Ten years ago, I experienced a sudden and mysterious illness that almost took my life,” he told his audience before playing the clip. “At the time, I had no idea it was lupus. And, you know me, I always have to have a camera on. So I would literally open up my phone, grab my camera and I would talk to the camera, and I documented the entire health journey.”
The actor spoke about how he learned of kidney failure after he was admitted to the hospital following his experience of shortness of breath, swelling, and pain while on vacation.
“It’s the last place you wanna be, man. Doctors telling you you could die,” he said.
Cannon’s journey underscores the importance of prioritizing health, serving as a global reminder that true wealth lies in one’s well-being.
