Smile through it all

All the while that he fought for the dignity of the people who looked like him and others, Lewis never lost his charm as a person. This is one thing that makes him loved even across the political divides.

It was Friedrich Nietzsche who warned that when we stare into the abyss for too long, it does stare back. We are reminded that if we are not careful, we may turn into the thing we fight against.

John Lewis proves that it is possible to retain your humanity even if you have fought some of the most unfair situations in living memory.
