Traditionally, when one thinks of a Disc Jockey or DJ, the image that comes up is that of a man, but a revolution is here to stay. We are in an era of prolific women DJs who are not only good at the turntables, but they own the space with their style and lovely personalities.
Who Run the World? Girls! Well, women have cemented their place in the music industry and now taking over the DJ booth as well. There have been women DJs like DJ Duffey and DJ Spindererlla who have paved the way for today’s league of female DJs.
Although they basically hype play tunes behind the turntables, female DJs must also look dope for the occasion they are playing at. They keep it simple but very cute, from their makeup to their hairstyles and of course outfits.
Here are some female DJs whipping up storms whenever they are at any event, be it a party, club or concert.
DJ Dimepiece
Stays slayed up behind her decks and she is a self-proclaimed radio rockstar who believes appearances are very important as they create a good first impression on a client. “Before a client books me or a guest hears my DJ set, I’m the first thing that they see which is why it’s important for me to look fly and make a great first impression. When I look good, I feel good and that fuels me to DJ a great set.”
DJ Ria
DJ Ria is not fussy about makeup and a cute Ruby Woo lipstick does the trick for her. Her outfit choice is highly dependent on her mood. She said, “outfits totally depend on how I feel. I could be in a chill mood, I’ll throw on a cute onesie or jeans and a cute bodysuit – or I could be a little bit of rocker chic, hip-hop sass or little sexy sass ‘n class!”
DJ Miss Milan
Saweetie’s official DJ, Miss Milan says “It’s important for me to look my best as a DJ because that’s exactly the same energy I plan to give you during my sets; my very best. Especially when men think you’re just the cute DJ like, ‘yea I let my ‘cute’ self show you how it’s really done’.” She usually spots her red locks and we love it.
Olivia Dope
This renowned DJ has been featured by BET, VIBE and ESSENCE and she is all about being conformable and vibing with the music and audience. There may be times when you feel like wearing makeup, other times not so, she told HelloBeautiful. “Sometimes we just want to be comfortable and focus on the vibe. Other times, it’s fun to dress and match that vibe. For example, my personal go-to is a good 90s aesthetic ‘cause I love playing music from the golden era of hip-hop. It makes me feel like I’m back in that time to match the music.”
DJ C. Devone
DJ C. Devone is big on mental health and hosts a podcast, Music, Men and My Mental. To her, music is therapeutic and one must look and feel good when serving the masses with it as well. “It is so important to feel good in and out! As a DJ who advocates for physical and mental health, I love to do things that ‘feel good!’. With music, it’s about playing music that makes people feel within or connect to ‘memorable moments’.” Her go-to signature is spotting a red lip and keeping her clothes true to her tomboy chic style.
