Authorities in Las Vegas have brought charges against a substitute teacher who allegedly made two students kiss in front of their class. Per WPDE, the North Las Vegas Police Department said 29-year-old Rasheda Rose was working as a substitute teacher at Legacy Traditional School North Valley when she allegedly made 6th-grade students kiss in class.

Rose is employed by an external substitute teacher agency, and Legacy Traditional said the agency has also launched an internal investigation into what occurred.

The arrest report of the incident stated that an individual on October 12 called the police to report that Rose was “encouraging 6th-grade students to come to the front of the class and kiss each other.” That individual also claimed that the suspect touched on the topic of dating and was asking inappropriate questions about that.

Multiple students who spoke with police said Rose encouraged them to kiss each other and keep their actions a secret. In a video that a student recorded, Rose is also seemingly heard saying, “We’re not going to say anything,” and, “Imma ask those two if they can give us a show,” per the report.

A different student said Rose made two students come to the front of the class after they raised their hands when the substitute teacher asked if anyone was dating, WPDE reported. The student also said Rose told them not to disclose what was happening to anyone, adding that they were afraid of the repercussions they could face if they disobeyed the teacher. The report stated that a parent of one of the two students said other students later teased and bullied her child.

Rose, who turned herself in to the police on November 1, has since been charged with two counts of child abuse and neglect or endangerment. She was also released on her own recognizance. But Jack Buchanan, who is Rose’s attorney, raised doubts about the allegations.

“My office’s independent investigation into this matter is also just beginning and we are confident when the full understanding and facts of this alleged incident are brought to light, the version of events that’s been previously reported will show how highly distorted in reality they are,” said Buchanan in a statement.

Rose’s next court hearing will be held on January 8.
