Belizean politician and former rapper Shyne has in the past stated that he has moved on after his prison stint and bears no ill will toward Sean “Diddy” Combs. But it appears the ex-Bad Boy Records signee still has some issues with the way his former boss treated him before and after his incarceration.
As previously reported by Face2Face Africa, Shyne, born Moses Michael Levi Barrow, was sentenced to 10 years in prison on assault, reckless endangerment, and gun possession charges for the shooting incident at Club New York. Three people were injured in the aftermath of the shooting.
Combs was dating Jennifer Lopez at the time, and they were both at the club during the shooting. Combs was, however, acquitted on gun and bribery charges in connection to the incident, XXL reported. Shyne was released from prison in 2009 and deported to his native Belize.
In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club to promote his Hulu documentary, The Honorable Shyne, the 46-year-old touched on a 2012 meeting where Combs tried to patch things up by offering him some money, Billboard reported.
“There wasn’t an instant forgiveness. I got out in 2009,” Shyne stated. “There wasn’t an attempt at reconciliation until 2012, when I went to Paris to meet him. That was the first attempt of forgiveness, but I was still in a place of, ‘He owe me. He owes me his life.’ He’s a billionaire. If it wasn’t for me, he wouldn’t have been a billionaire.”
He continued: “If I would have cooperated with the district attorney, he’d have went to jail, and heaven knows what would have happened to his career. So that’s worth at least a couple million dollars out of the billion that you’re worth.”
But the Commission rapper said the amount of money that the embattled music executive offered him left a bad taste in his mouth. “He probably gave me, like, 50 racks, and I’m like, ‘You can’t be serious.’ That’s 10 years? Fifty racks?” he said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Shyne also touched on a time when Combs tried to visit him while he was in custody at Rikers. “He came to see me once, and I think I tried to spit in his face in Rikers Island,” he said.
“I didn’t even want him to come see me. I didn’t even know he was coming to see me. They just brought me down in the lawyer’s office.”
