Janeeka and Eric McDowell’s got to relive their day through the eyes of Shaneisha Wofford, whose handle on Threads is @nemos_journey. She commented about being at their wedding on September 1, announcing that she “found a wedding on Eventbrite like 2 months ago” and decided to RSVP.

In a now-viral post that accumulated nearly 15K likes, Wofford wrote, “I’m here. I know no one. I didn’t show up empty-handed. The attire said cocktail, I’m wearing a floor-length off-the-shoulder red dress and light makeup.”

She went on to post videos of various wedding moments, such as the couple’s first dance and big entrances. Eric McDowell told Today.com, “I got a text in my poker chat, like, ‘Hey, you guys are going viral on Threads.’ We were cracking up.”

After, he shared the conversation on his account and acknowledged Wofford for coming and being “respectful,” noting that he and his wife “loved” her message.

Although they had also thought about using more conventional methods to track attendance, such as The Knot and Zola, the pair said that they had chosen to rely on Eventbrite to handle their guest list and RSVPs.

But a week or two before the wedding, they observed an odd trend: the number of guests on their guest list kept increasing.

Eric McDowell stated, “We didn’t really think about how random it was on Eventbrite. (Then I was) like, ‘Wait a second, who is, you know, recognized?’”

His wife, Janeeka McDowell, added, “We were like, ‘OK, if we don’t know them, we can just delete them. But I think for (Wofford), we just thought like, ‘Oh, maybe she’s someone’s plus one.’”

So it was at their wedding reception—after the McDowells asked all 150 of their guests to snap a picture with them at their sweetheart table—that they first got acquainted with Wofford.

Eric McDowell shared that, “When (Wofford) told us that she saw our wedding on Eventbrite, we were kind of shocked. We didn’t think someone would actually come that we didn’t know.”

Their shock grew after Wofford gave them a gift. “She was so sweet,” Janeeka McDowell mentioned. “She was like, ‘Hi, I saw your wedding on Eventbrite, I brought a gift.’”

Janeeka McDowell also said that one of her friends, who was seated across from Wofford, had commented on how pleasant she was, and that “it seemed like she really fit in.”

Even the couple’s family were amused by the news.

Janeeka McDowell said that when her mother saw the text about their wedding going viral, she termed it as “a blessing”.

“The video that (Wofford) showed was so beautiful, and it really showcased our wedding in a beautiful light,” she recounted. “It felt like hundreds of thousands of people across the world were able to see our love.”

Using Eventbrite for their wedding is a decision that the couple does not regret.

The content wife declared, “If we could do it again, we probably would. It worked out well, and she brought such good vibes.”
