Lincoln University senior sprinter Kevaughn Goldson, 23, was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend, Denita Jackson, in the wee hours of Monday. Per KMIZ, Jackson, who is also a senior sprinter for the university, was charged in connection with Goldson’s killing on Monday.
The LU Athletics website states that Goldson hailed from Jamaica, and he was a member of the university’s track and field team. Jackson, on the other hand, hails from Berbice, Guyana.
Though Jackson and Goldson were dating, there were previous domestic violence incidents involving the pair, per court documents. Jackson disclosed that their recent case stemmed from an altercation over a missing cologne bottle.
Jackson also informed police that she suspected Goldson and a roommate of hers were having an affair.
Prior to the fatal incident, authorities said that Jackson returned home early after going to work on Sunday night, as she wasn’t feeling OK. She informed the police that though her boyfriend was in her bedroom at the time she made her way to work, he was not around when she returned in the wee hours of Monday.
Jackson also said she noticed her roommate was in their room and having a conversation with another person, court documents stated. After unlocking the door with a hairclip, Jackson informed police that she saw Goldson and her roommate in bed, though they were undressed. She also said she saw the missing cologne bottle.

Jackson is said to have subsequently gotten on the bed and gotten hold of the cologne as well as Goldson’s shirt, KMIZ reported. The pair then got into a physical altercation, with police saying that Jackson claimed she fell from the bed after the deceased victim kicked her stomach.
Jackson also claimed that Goldson choked her while he was on top of her, per police. Jackson told police that there was a knife under the witness’ bed, and she subsequently got hold of it and used it to stab Goldson. The victim is said to have sustained knife wounds to his back and chest.
Jackson reported the stabbing to authorities, and officers later responded to the scene. Goldson was transported to the Capital Region Emergency Room. But police said he was uncooperative when they attempted to get details about the incident from him.
Goldson was ultimately airlifted to the University Hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.
Jackson was arrested on Monday and charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.
