The Caribbean island of Dominican Republic gained its independence from Haiti on this day (February 27th) in 1844.
The beautiful island boasts many tourist attractions and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Caribbean. It is also home to the Caribbean’s tallest mountain peak, Pico Duarte, and the Caribbean’s largest lake and point of lowest elevation, Lake Enriquillo.
In commemoration of their independence day, Face2Face Africa throws a spotlight on prominent and trailblazing Afro-Dominicans who have made significant contributions in their fields.
