Solomon Kerzner was the visionary and pragmatic serial entrepreneur credited with the founding of many of South Africa’s top luxury brands in the hospitality industry. Some of these luxury hotels and resorts include Sun City, Lost City, Sandton Sun, Beverly Hills Hotel, Elangeni Hotel, and Beacon Island Hotel.
Overseas, he also founded Atlantis Bahamas, Atlantis Dubai, One & Only Mexico, One & Only Australia, and One & Only Mauritius. His achievements in business are not just about the growth and success of his companies alone, but also the impact on the communities where the businesses are located.
The Sun City resort, which was built in 1979 set the benchmark for today’s casinos and resorts globally. Solomon Kerzner was a South African accountant and business mogul. In 1964, he built South Africa’s first 5-star hotel in Umhlanga – the resort is known today as Beverly Hills. Born on August 23, 1935, he died on March 21, 2020, in Cape Town.
