Authorities in Massachusetts have brought charges against a 21-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his 15-year-old girlfriend hours before her middle school graduation, the New York Post reported.
In a statement, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said Trevor Bady was on Monday arrested in connection with Ahliana Dickey’s shooting death. Authorities said Dickey was supposed to attend her eighth-grade graduation on Friday, June 14. But her family became worried after she did not show up, causing them to try and locate her before ultimately going to her residence in Lowell.
Authorities said the victim’s grandmother later called Lowell Police to report that her granddaughter had been located at her home, though it was likely she was deceased. Police also responded to the scene and found Dickey with apparent gunshot wounds.
The statement said investigators got to know the deceased victim had been in an abusive relationship with Bady, adding that the 21-year-old suspect had allegedly hit and threatened his deceased younger girlfriend in the past.
“Shortly after midnight on June 14, 2024, Lowell Police received a call from an individual on Lawrence Street reporting that a male and female were fighting outside across the street,” authorities said. “The caller reported hearing a female screaming ‘get off me, get away from me, I don’t want to be with you anymore.’ The caller also reported hearing gunshots.”
Police, however, did not find anyone after responding to the scene. Authorities said footage that was reviewed allegedly showed Dickey screaming for help not too long before midnight. The footage also showed Bady leaving the deceased 15-year-old’s home shortly after midnight.
Police also said that on June 15, they learned that Bady had allegedly boarded an Uber “to and from the victim’s home before and after the murder.” The driver also later reported that Bady was acting suspiciously and “expressed concern.”
Authorities also said that days before Bady fatally shot Dickey, he had threatened to kill the deceased victim and her grandmother, WCVB reported. “(Bady) made statements such as, ‘I’m going to kill you, I’m going to kill your grandma.’ He was going to shoot up her house. He threatened to kidnap her and shoot her,” prosecutor Christopher Tarrant said.
Bady has since been charged with murder, armed home invasion, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, use of a firearm while committing a felony and discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
“That man is no good, he’s a coward, and I hope he gets everything he deserves we’re mourning and we’re hurting,” Dickey’s cousin said. “It’s not fair to her. She had a lot of plans in life … beautiful girl, beautiful,” the deceased victim’s grandmother said.
“She’s my oldest granddaughter, and I don’t know how we’re going to go on without her,” she also said. “She was a child.”
