Guadeloupe Carnival
Known to be one of the longest running festivals, the Guadeloupe Carnival is climaxed in March with a few more celebrations to go. Originally adapted from the European festivals during colonization, the Guadeloupe Carnival has developed to become a two-month celebration of history and Caribbean culture. Known as one of the most important Carnivals in the Antilles, the Carnival celebrates history, the struggle Africans faced during slavery and the new cultures that developed out of the African and European interactions. The parade rounds up with the Parade in Pyjamas, the parade by night of Lundi Gras, and finally the Great Parade of Mardi Gras – Basse-Terre on March 5.
