Kwaw Ansah – Ghana

As the most celebrated Ghanaian filmmaker, Kwaw Painstil Ansah will forever be acknowledged as the pioneer of local filmmaking in the English language in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa. In 1980, he released his first film Love Brewed in the African Pot which became the first privately financed feature movie and later in 1989, he released his second classic Heritage Africa. Before going into the film industry, he worked briefly as a textile designer and then as a production assistant and set designer for the Ghana Film Industry Corporation and was the set designer for the 1970 Ghanaian classic local language movie I Told You So. In 2014, Kwaw Ansah released a comic for his movie, Love Brewed in an African Pot.
