Gitarama Prison
Set in Rwanda, the Gitarama prison was originally built to inhabit 40o prisoners, instead, there are 6,000 inmates.
Human faeces are said to fill the occupied areas causing prisoners to contract gangrene, resulting in some of their deaths.
Food is also so scarce that prisoners have been reported to eat each other’s flesh out of starvation.
Most of the prisoners held here have committed a genocide-related crime.
