Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Built at a cost of $220 million, it is a major library and cultural centre located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea in the Egyptian city of Alexandria. The massive library, with its architectural design like a great sundial, has shelf space for eight million books, with the main reading room covering 70,000 m2.
The complex also houses a conference centre, four museums, four art galleries, conservation facilities and a school for information science.
