Jamaican Ackee and Codfish
The Ackee fruit is a pear-shaped fruit found in warm climates. As the fruit ripens, it turns from green to bright red to yellow-orange and splits open to reveal three large, shiny black seeds.
This national fruit of Jamaica was imported from East Africa before 1725. Today, ackee fruit is canned and remains one of Jamaica’s major exports. This fruit is one of the main ingredients used in preparing the delicacy, of course, with the salt-cod.
