Former NBA star Sebastian Telfair is making what appears to be a last-minute appeal to President Donald Trump before reporting to prison. Telfair, 40, was among other former NBA players who were implicated in the league’s healthcare fraud scheme.
In an interview with TMZ Sports on Monday, the former Oklahoma City Thunder star pleaded with Trump to grant him a pardon hours before reporting to prison on Tuesday, August 12.
The 40-year-old was initially placed on supervised release after his conviction in the healthcare fraud case. But he was ultimately ordered to serve six months behind bars after he failed to meet the conditions of his supervised release.
Telfair, however, described his current predicament as “definitely some bulls***,” adding that he believes Trump could grant him a pardon if he lends him an ear.
“Trump, go check in on my story and you’re definitely going to want to pardon me. You’ll hold me accountable and want me to continue to go do good. But I did too good to being sending anybody to jail,” he said.
Telfair also claimed that he wasn’t being treated fairly as the problem had to do with “paperwork.” “It’s super unfair,” he said.
Should Trump not grant him a pardon, Telfair assured his family, friends and fans that he’ll work on being a better person while he’s locked up. He also told TMZ Sports that he’ll be working on his book during that period.
“I’m definitely mad I put myself in this situation,” Telfair said. “But we definitely have got some wins coming.” “So, my fans, just hold tight,” the 40-year-old added.
