Married since 2008 and still going strong, Jay-Z and Beyoncé aren’t just a power couple; they are the definition of black love and of course, couple goals.
Despite how secretive they are with their marriage and family life, they haven’t shied away from opening up about problems they have had to deal with as a unit – proving that they are just as human as everyone and not as perfect as people paint them to be.
In Beyoncé’s 2016 Lemonade album, she opened up about her husband’s infidelity on a number of songs, confirming rumors that were circulating around that time that they were having marital issues. Jay-Z admitted to his infidelity on his 2017 released 4:44 album which is described as his most vulnerable and personal piece ever.
In an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine after the album release, the billionaire rapper and business mogul spoke extensively about his infidelity, pointing to his childhood as the primary cause.
“You have to survive. So you go into survival mode, and when you go into survival mode what happen? You shut down all emotions,” he said. “So even with women, you gonna shut down emotionally, so you can’t connect … And then all the things happen from there: infidelity.”
He also touched on divorce and confirmed they had to seek therapy during those trying times.
“You know, most people walk away, and like divorce rate is like 50 percent or something ’cause most people can’t see themselves,” the Blueprint rapper said.
“The hardest thing is seeing pain on someone’s face that you caused, and then have to deal with yourself.”
The couple, however, sailed through the storm and came back strong, celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary this year. With a beautiful daughter and a twin boy and girl, it is safe to say everything’s ok with the Carters!
