A look at the features of ancient Egyptian coffins and how they preserved the bodies of the pharaohs

The sarcophagi or coffins which housed the remains of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs have marveled modern-day observers and historians of ancient Egypt alike.

The coffins come with their elaborated designs and inscriptions and valuable items buried with their mummified bodies.

The coffins protected the corpse from scavenging animals and tomb robbers while also serving an important religious role through their shape and decoration, which was modified over the years.
