Earlie Harris died in a bizarre accident while on her way to work on August 8. The 58-year-old Alabama woman, according to her relatives, died after a wrench broke through the glass of the vehicle in which she was riding.
In a statement shared with People, Montgomery County Police said that they were called to a single-vehicle collision near the West South Boulevard and I-65 Southbound off-ramp.
“At the scene, contact was made with the passenger, Earlie Harris, 58, of Montgomery, Alabama, who sustained fatal injuries from roadway debris. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.”
Cedric, her son, who was in the car with her, told WSFA, “I ducked down and looked up and my mom was bleeding and I pulled off the interstate.”
The distraught family informed the publication that although they are unsure of the wrench’s source, they believe it may have come from an interstate truck traveling north.
Her son told WSFA that his mother was “caring” and “big on family,” adding that she was a wonderful grandma and mother.
Meanwhile, the family’s legal representative, The Beasley Allen Law Firm, is providing a $1,000 reward to anyone with information.
The firm’s attorney, LaBarron Boone, stated, ”It’s something you can’t miss. Somebody out there with high traffic, who was behind it, saw the object fall, bouncing down the street. It didn’t hit them, and maybe they just continued, but it did end up killing Ms. Earlie Harris.”
In a statement shared with People, the Beasley Allen Law Firm wrote: “The family is standing strong and trying to honor Mrs. Harris’s commitment to Service to the community. While the struggle and pain are unrelenting, the family is trying to stand strong in honor of Mrs. Earlie Harris, who was the anchor for the entire family. The family asks for everyone to keep praying for them and to call and provide any information they have about this wreck that happened on 8/8/2024 near the southern bypass in Montgomery around 8:55 am on I 65. Please call 800-898-2034 if you have any information about where that large wrench came from.”
In the meantime, an online obituary was put up for the deceased, who was a native of Montgomery.
A commenter posted on the obituary’s tribute wall, “Earlie and I were coworkers and neighbors. You will be missed always smiling. You were a hard worker. Sending prayers to your kids, grands and great grandkids. Prayers will hold you all together, family stick together don’t let nothing divide you. Remember the love she gave to you all.”
The WSFA reported that police are still looking into the incident.
