Banana fibre bags — D’source

Hand-woven baskets and bags

Producing weaving products like baskets, bags, and mats out of banana fibre has been effective in creating additional income for women in rural areas and banana plantation sites in countries like Rwanda and Uganda.

Banana fibre is extracted from banana stems. Previously, farmers were throwing away a large of amount of these stems after the harvest of the fruit.

But these banana stems have now been put into major use, as scores of trained and talented women continue to produce hand-woven banana fibre baskets, mats, or bags which are sold locally or for export.
