The Shadow Speaker – by Nnedi Okorafor

This futuristic book is set in 2070 in West Africa. It was a tie when a 15-year-old “shadow speaker” sees her father being beheaded.

She then embarks on a dangerous journey to avenge her father’s death in pursuit of his killer Jaa in the Sahara.

She happened to find her and ends up realising the higher calling on her life and the mystical powers she has.
