California rapper Tan DaGod was shot dead while hosting a grand opening at Glamor Beauty Supply in Oakland. She had heavily promoted her appearance online and shared a video of herself meeting fans at the event on Saturday.
She was shot around 5 p.m. on Saturday, prompting fans who had come to meet her to flee to nearby stores for safety, witnesses told KRON.
“I heard some shooting I thought it was part of their music,” one worker at a restaurant across the street told the outlet.
Tan DaGod, a locally known rapper, was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. A second, unidentified victim was also shot but is expected to recover.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the gunman is still at large.
A restaurant worker described the suspect as a male wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Within hours of the shooting, tributes began to pile up outside the shop.
Flowers spelling out Tan DaGod’s name were laid across the sidewalk, and mourners gathered, holding each other and sobbing.
