A 7.6 magnitude earthquake was felt off the coast of the Caribbean in the Caribbean Sea north of Honduras triggering a Tsunami warning.

The US Geological Survey reported that the quake struck 36km northeast of Great Swan Island at around 2:51am GMT and waves up to one meter above tide level are possible in Honduras and Belize.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has estimated that “hazardous sea level fluctuations and strong ocean currents may begin after 5:20am GMT.

However, it lifted some of its earlier warnings and advised residents of coastal Cuba, Mexico and Jamaica to be on the lookout. Casualties have not been reported.

The Caribbean islands are still recovering from last year’s Hurricane Maria and Irma that struck Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago and many other islands.
