Dr. Dre’s wife, Nicole Young, has filed for divorce. This comes after 24 years of marriage. According to reports, Young filed the documents to end the marriage with the business tycoon on Monday in the Los Angeles County Court.
She cited irreconcilable differences.
Young got married to Dr. Dre whose real name is Andre Young in 1996. She was previously married to LA Lakers player, Sedale Threatt. She is seeking spousal support from Dr. Dre, 55, despite the absence of a prenuptial agreement.
According to Forbes, Dr. Dre topped the 10 highest-earning musicians list with $800 million ahead of Taylor Swift and Beyonce, despite not releasing an album since 2015. His wealth, according to the report, is largely due to his 20% stake in Beats Electronics, a subsidiary of Apple Inc.
The couple have two children born in 1997 and 2001. They joined Dre’s four children from his previous relationship.
Dr. Dre and Young aren’t the first celebrity couple breaking up this year. On June 2, Kelly Clarkson filed court papers in Los Angeles to end her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, also citing irreconcilable differences, USA Today reported.
In February, Peter Philips, the eldest grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II, and his wife Autumn announced they were divorcing after 12 years of marriage.
