Scott Hicks
Born in 1953, Hicks won an Oscar for his role in the biopic of pianist David Helfgott.
The son of a housewife and a civil engineer, he was born in Uganda but his family moved to Nairobi and lived there until he was 10.
As a film writer, his works have been nominated for an Academy Award; he also won an Emmy Award. He has directed the film adaptations of Stephen King’s Hearts in Atlantis and Nicholas Spark’s The Lucky One.
