Godwin Benson
Nigerian, 2017 WINNER (with his team)
Benson launched his peer-to-peer learning platform named Tuteria in October 2015.
Tuteria is an online platform that connects people seeking to learn ‘anything’ with verified local experts who can teach them what they want to learn, as well as ensure safety, accountability and quality learning delivery.
According to Malcolm Brinded, Head Judge of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation by the Royal Academy of Engineering, “Godwin Benson’s Tuteria invention changes the way Nigerians – and Africans – share knowledge and skills…”
In two years, Tuteria became a community of over 10,650 tutors and 3,540 learners across Nigeria.
The problem Benson and his team sought to solve was that 42+ million children, youths and adults in Nigeria, and 204 million in Africa who desire to learn various skills and subjects, had no reliable access to competent, local teachers. Their innovation has helped to provide an easy way to find, book, pay for, schedule and track lessons with verified teachers on the platform.
Tuteria is bridging the learning gap in Nigeria while creating a healthy source of income for numerous teachers, graduates and students in Africa.
