COVID-19 hit the world when nobody was prepared. Since its discovery from Wuhan, China, the virus has brought the world to its knees, paralyzing institutions, governments, and the livelihood of people. 

Not only has it affected people, it has also affected some of the most famous tourist sites we know to be buzzing with life. From The Great Mosque and Kaaba in Mecca in Saudi Arabia to Beirut’s Corniche Promenade in Lebanon, these famous places have become ghost towns.

As the world awaits a vaccine to battle COVID-19, we cast a spotlight on some famous places across the continent that have become a skeleton of themselves due to the pandemic.
