NFL receiver Michael Gallup has retired after six seasons, just three months after signing a deal worth up to $3 million. Gallup, a third-round draft pick in 2018, spent his entire career with the Dallas Cowboys, amassing 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns.
He signed with the Raiders in free agency but has chosen to retire before training camp, according to Daily Mail. Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on X that Gallup’s decision to retire was due to a lack of passion for the game.
The 28-year-old receiver had his best season in 2019 with 1,107 receiving yards and six touchdowns, but his performance declined due to injuries, including an ACL tear in January 2022.

Released by the Cowboys in March after three consecutive seasons with under 500 receiving yards, Hill noted that Gallup likely wanted to stay in Dallas.
Despite appearing in every game for Dallas last season, Gallup has decided to retire.
He has remained quiet about his decision but shared two congratulatory Instagram stories from former Cowboys teammate CeeDee Lamb.
“Nothing but love this way kid,” he wrote to Lamb in one.
Gallup signed a five-year, $57.5 million contract with Dallas in 2022, which included $27 million in guarantees.
