Flavor Flav has claimed his festive mood was soured at the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting event in New York City, where he was reportedly kicked out of the Backstreet Boys’ dressing room by NBC security.
Despite the holiday cheer surrounding the event, which featured performances from stars like Kelly Clarkson and the Backstreet Boys, Flav said he was confronted backstage while trying to meet with the boy band.
“I feel weird… I was invited to the Rockefeller Tree Lighting tonite and I was escorted to see my boys… THE BACKSTREET BOYS… and we were backstage in their dressing room… security came up to me and said: @nbc Does not want me in this area and I need to leave,” the “Fight The Power” hitmaker, 65, wrote on X in a now-deleted post.
“At the same time… their social media woman came up and asked to capture social content.”
“What did I ever do to NBC or anyone?? all I ever do is try to spread joy and love… and I think I did that for NBC at the Olympics,” he added, referencing his work with NBC during this year’s Paris Olympic Games.
The “Bring the Noise” rapper soon deleted the heated post, but quickly followed up with a second one.
“I deleted the tweet… but my spirit is broken,” he wrote in another post.
Despite the band’s support in speaking up to security on his behalf, Flav was later seen watching the lighting of the 74-foot Norway Spruce from the crowd on Wednesday night.
The incident is being investigated, with the NBC and Backstreet Boys’ representatives yet to comment.
Thousands gathered at the Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting event, waiting hours for a chance to see the iconic 74-foot Norway Spruce lit up. At 10 p.m., the ceremony kicked off with a choir performance of “Joy to the World.”
Kelly Clarkson performed her holiday hit “Underneath the Tree,” while the Backstreet Boys brought festive cheer with renditions of Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” and Wham!’s “Last Christmas.”
The Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting event also featured performances from Jennifer Hudson, who delivered a jazz version of “Winter Wonderland” from the rooftop of Radio City Music Hall.
Other stars included Grammy-winner Coco Jones, Thalia, Raye, and the iconic Radio City Rockettes, all contributing to the festive atmosphere.
