A Florida mother was arrested after allegedly “accidentally” shooting her teenage daughter during an altercation outside a McDonald’s on Friday night in Miami.
32-year-old Melissa Valbrum was at the Pinewood McDonald’s with her 15-year-old daughter when she got into a dispute with a group of three people.
According to reports, Valbrum became agitated after she saw a woman in the group pointing at her inside the restaurant.
The woman however told police that she was signaling to her two cousins that their Lyft had arrived.
The misunderstanding then escalated and Valbrum began yelling at the group, prompting the confrontation to continue outside.
According to an arrest affidavit, Valbrum retrieved a gun from her car and allegedly threatened to “shoot and kill” the group.
As the Lyft drove away, Valbrum claimed the gun “accidentally fell” from her waistband, discharged and struck her daughter in the left shoulder.
The affidavit further alleges that the Florida mother was banging on the car’s window with the gun. She pointed it at those inside and threatened the group, which included the driver and one minor passenger.
Reports also indicate that Valbrum reached into the vehicle to assault one of the passengers.
The 32-year-old was arrested and has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and culpable negligence inflicting personal injury.
Her injured daughter is however now in stable condition after being transported to Ryder Trauma Center while Valbrum was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
