A former Maryland hospital worker is in the grips of law enforcement agents when he was nabbed on charges including second-degree rape and fourth-degree sex offense on Tuesday. He also faces abuse of a vulnerable adult and second-degree assault as well as misdemeanor drug possession and several counts of theft.

Travis K. Brooks, 35, of Trappe, Maryland, was initially being investigated for theft after officers were told that a patient had money stolen from her wallet while having a procedure done.

Easton police who were called to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center soon found in April that Brooks had been taking photos of patients’ credit cards.

Brooks’ woes deepened when detectives found a video showing him sexually assaulting a different patient who was unconscious. Police say he carried out and recorded the video in December 2019 after detectives identified the victim and confirmed the act.

“On Tuesday, Aug. 11, detectives of the Easton Police Department, with the assistance of the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search and seizure warrant at Brooks’ home in Trappe, where they took him into custody and served him with the two arrest warrants.

Brooks has a long arrest record and was charged with assault in July 2019 in a separate case.
